IT’S HARD YAKKA FOR DRAGONS IN 2002

The St George Illawarra Dragons today announced that they had agreed a deal with national clothing company Yakka to be the Dragons shorts sponsor for the 2002 Telstra Premiership season.

The agreement is for a one year period with a two year option and is a significant coup for the Dragons as this is Yakka’s first ever venture into Rugby League sponsorship. Yakka is a family owned Australian business and a great synergy exists between these two iconic Australian brands.

“The Dragons are delighted to announce another Australian owned national company to join the Dragons family of sponsors.” Dragons Chief Executive Peter Doust said today.

“I’m delighted our relationship with Yakka has been confirmed in time for the sell out Charity Shield match against Souths, which will be broadcast live on both free to air and pay television. It’s certainly a great way to kick off the Dragons association with Yakka and we are hoping to build a long term partnership”. Doust added.

“I believe the introduction of a national organization like Yakka to Rugby League also highlights the health of the game itself” Doust said.

Yakka are a wholly owned Australian business that employs almost 1500 staff nationally and their ongoing partnership with the Dragons will play a key role in their continued growth in the New South Wales market.

Yakka Associate Director, Mr. Frank Inzitari, traveled from Melbourne to sign the agreement today at St George Leagues Club.

Mr Inzitari said. “Yakka have been a sponsor of AFL club Collingwood for more than twenty years and we were previously involved with the Fremantle Dockers. We are very pleased that the company has now become associated with the game of Rugby League through this sponsorship of the St George Illawarra Dragons”

“The Dragons brand is established and recognised as a leader within the sporting market, with national appeal that stretches right across Australia” Mr Inzitari said.
